Objets d'Art

Marbles, those jewels which poor boys play with,

Shine out more bright than festal things

In diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds,

Sun-struck, as by the glance of kings.

Protective, like a frozen fountain,

The white and blue and red and green,

Conjoined, fill up the bowl of Roman

Glass - ancient aquamarine.

So here the two have come together:

These transient toys and what was then

A kitchen trifle - now in silver

Clasped: and both made by unknown men.
