Winged Victor

Prince,

Beside me, on the right,

Yet always just beyond my sight;

There by day,

And there by night;

Watchful,

Waiting,

Active,

Still;

Glittering sentry,

Armed head-to-foot with light,

Guarding me against

That enemy who taints

Each rebellious sense

With his own insolence;

Friend,

Loving me despite

Indifference on my part;

Who can see

Beyond the omni-present me

To the man I ought to be;

Brother,

Whom I start

Now to know

In my heart,

Who is another

Like to me

But better;

Alter Christus

Dexterous,

Youthful,

Smiling,

Brilliant,

Patient,

Truthful,

All that I can hope to be -

Ah, beatific mirror, see

Something of yourself in me

However dimly small;

Oh, magnify

And make your image shine

Until that festal day

When what is yours is mine

And we are Christ’s

And He

Is all in all.
