Points of View

On the right you see the sea,

And on the left, the land;

Up above,

The sky.

Which do you choose?

You can only use

One.

Sailors have blue eyes

And far off looks.

At night

They read books

In their cabins.

They own

Parrots and monkeys

Bought

At Coromandel.

There is also the ship’s cat.

With shepherds your thought

Goes naturally to sheep,

Which they keep

In various colours.

Then too

They possess dogs

Of different sizes.

Perhaps you would like

To notice

A curl of smoke

Over their houses.

On occasion

It is there.

At to those

Living in the air,

I am unable

To speak,

They

Being invisible

Even to the lark’s eye,

However hard

It may try.

On the right you see the sea,

And on the left, the land;

Up above,

The sky.

Which do you choose?

Or will you use

None?
